As soon as the paperwork is submitted for
your new hot tub, your first question will be, when will it arrive? We understand. It is exciting waiting for your new hot tub! In anticipation of your hot tub arrival, here are a few things you should know in preparation.
Delivery Basics
Something important to do before the hot tub is delivered is to clear a path. Plan how the shippers will be able to deliver the hot tub to your desired location. Remove any obstructions like A/C unit, awnings, picture frames, or furniture. If there is any fencing, doors or gates that will be in the way, attempt to safely, temporarily remove them. If your hot tub location is going to be in a particularly difficult to reach the spot, a crane may be necessary.
Location Preparation
Before you pick out the perfect location for your hot tub you should be aware hot tubs can be pretty heavy. An empty hot tub can weigh anywhere between 350 – 1000 pounds. While a hot tub filled with water can weigh over 3,000 pounds, plus there is the weight of the users to consider. When choosing a location make sure there is a solid foundation and it can support the weight of your tub. The general recommendation is to install your hot tub on a level surface made of stone or concrete. If a deck or patio are your preferred location, be sure to consult with a professional contractor. They will be able to confirm the structure can support the hot tub.
Some people design a surrounding structure or gazebo around their hot tub. When doing so, make sure you leave enough room for easy access and are still able to open the side panel to reach the hot tub’s equipment. Something else to consider is any regulations in your area like municipality codes or building regulations. This may require you to install protective fencing, or a barrier, to protect children from accessing the hot tub unsupervised.
Lastly, an electrical hookup will be necessary for your hot tub. This includes an outside electrical disconnect as required by many municipality electrical codes.
On Delivery Day
- Having two able-bodied assistants to help with the delivery is suggested, but even more necessary if it will be a crane delivery.
- Clear all and any potential obstacles such as furniture, BBQ’s, flower boxes or lawn ornaments so you have a clear path for installation.
- Since an electrical hook-up is necessary, it is important to have an electrician scheduled on-site.
- Lastly is make sure to have a hose with water supply ready to fill the hot tub.
After Delivery
After installing and filling your hot tub with water, be sure to add the proper balancing chemicals. Then wait until the hot tub has reached your preferred water temperature. While waiting, it would be very beneficial to thoroughly review the owner’s manual. This way you can understand the proper way to set the temperature, know how to monitor the filtration cycle and turn on the massage jets.
If you have young children, be sure to take the time to discuss all safety and family rules regarding the hot tub.
