Planning a Covid Staycation

With lockdown orders, suspended flights and possible 14-day quarantines upon arrival in a new country, our vacation plans for this spring and summer have been completely upended. Hopefully, you’re able to get your money back on any vacation plans that have already been booked, but even if that’s the case, what are you going to do if you’ve already got time booked off? Well, it looks like it’s time to start planning for a COVID staycation. It might be hard to rival your favourite all-inclusive resort or that bucket-list landmark, but you’ve got to make the best of a bad situation. In this article, we’ll show you how.

Get Cleaning!

Cleaning your house doesn’t sound like any kind of vacation at all but giving your residence a good scrub down will allow you to relax for a week or two without having to worry about cleaning the bathtub or doing laundry. Give yourself a vacation prep day to clean your house from top to bottom. You could think of it as a substitute for the time you would normally use to pack your bags and prepare for your vacation. Once your house is spic and span, you’ll be able to kick back, relax and enjoy your staycation like you would if you had a full cleaning staff taking care of all the details.

Stock Up on Food Treats

When you’re on vacation you allow yourself to indulge and satiate your culinary desires. A gelato as an after-breakfast snack completely makes sense if you’re touring around Rome, so why wouldn’t it also be allowed if you’re enjoying the sun in your backyard? But without easy access to these vacation treats, it hardly feels like a holiday. As part of your staycation preparations, do a big shopping trip and splurge on things you wouldn’t normally keep in your cupboards. Nice cheeses, fancy crackers, charcuterie, salty snacks, desserts, breakfast pain au chocolats. Allow yourself to buy the things you would normally never consider splurging on at your local grocery store. It’s your staycation, after all!

Upgrade Your Bedding

One of the amazing things about staying in a fancy hotel is the ultra-comfortable bedding they always seem to have. If you’ve experienced a luxurious bed at a specific hotel, as part of your vacation prep you might want to take a look online to see if you could purchase matching sheets, pillows, or duvets. Many of the big hotel chains will even sell you one of the mattresses that they’re so famous for. It won’t be cheap, but if it’s time to upgrade your bedding anyway, why not do it in style?

Sign Up to An Online Entertainment Provider

You might feel like you’re in the minority, but if you’ve never had Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, or some other type of online entertainment provider, now might just be the time to check one out. Most of these services will give you a free month trial period anyway, so if you’ve never signed up before, it won’t cost you anything as long as you make sure to cancel when your staycation is over. Now you can find out why names like Tiger King or Stranger Things seem to be referenced by everyone everywhere these days.

Recreate the Spa

If you’re lucky enough to be a hot tub owner, you can use it to wind down before you lay in the crisp clean sheets on your bed. Accent your outdoor hot tub area with some candles, essential oils, and a luxurious bathrobe and slippers. A glass of wine while soaking can feel like the height of luxury even if you aren’t actually staying at the Ritz.
